Arsenal Captain to miss out

Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas will miss the rest of the season after cracking his right fibula in Wednesday’s 2-2 Champions League draw with Barcelona.

Fabregas picked up the injury when he won a penalty after colliding with Barca centre-back Carles Puyol.

The Spaniard, 22, underwent a scan on Thursday which confirmed he will be out of action for at least six weeks.

William Gallas’ season may also be over after he suffered a calf injury, and Andrey Arshavin also faces a spell out.

Fabregas, who was a doubt before the quarter-final first leg with severe bruising to his knee and leg, was only declared fit to play after the final warm-up.

He was visibly pained after lashing in the equalising spot-kick five minutes from time against his boyhood club and left the Emirates Stadium on crutches.

The Hard working Portsmouth

Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie says the club are “working hard” to convince the Premier League that they are financially stable.

The Premier League said on Thursday it will give Portsmouth’s £7m share of the latest money from the league’s TV deal to the clubs Pompey owe money to.

Pompey’s transfer embargo remains in place but they are hopeful it will be lifted before the end of the month.

“It’s very disappointing of the Premier League,” Storrie told BBC Sport.

“We feel we are doing everything we can at the moment to stabilise the situation and get the embargo lifted.”

After a two-day meeting, the Premier League said the cash would be paid to “undisputed football creditors that were overdue at the time of meeting”.

Portsmouth owe about £10m to clubs in the Premier League and abroad.

But Storrie says that all the Premier League clubs have now been paid and agreements are in place to pay instalments to two of the three foreign clubs owed money. Negotiations with the third foreign club are being “finalised”.

Olympics 2012

Steps have been taken to prevent the London Olympic site being hit by sewage travelling at “40 miles an hour”, a Home Office minister has said.

Lord West was briefing peers on what is being done to protect critical infrastructure on the 2012 site.

He also revealed the games’ computer system, which controls ticketing, had already come under cyber attack.

He told a House of Lords sub-committee government and industrial computers in the UK were under “constant” attack.

The cyber-security minister said: “Almost every single government and industrial and other site is under attack, probably quite regularly. There are always people trying to get into these things.

“And so on the Olympic system, for example, we have found there have been some attacks on that and we are aware of those and we are dealing with them, but it’s something that we have to constantly monitor.”

India loses thriller match to Australia

The fifth one day international cricket match between Australia and India was full of thrilling situations right through the match. The Australian team scored 350 runs in the given 50 overs, and nobody expected India to reach anywhere near that.
But the little master Sachin Tendulkar had great plans, and he alone scored up 175 runs in less than 155 balls which pushed India very close to victory. But the last four batsmen were senseless and they handed over the victory to Australia in a platter, when they got out in a matter of three overs.

Yang Beats Woods to Clinch the Title

Finally, someone is here to give Woods a run for the title!

South Korea’s Yang Yong-Eun became the first Asian-born winner of a major championship when he beat Tiger Woods to clinch the USPGA title at Hazeltine. The 37-year-old was two shots adrift of overnight leader Woods but held his nerve to card 70 to the American’s 75 to win by three on the final green.

Yang’s victory ends Woods’s run of winning all 14 of his major titles when leading going into the final round.

England’s Lee Westwood and Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy tied for third. The pair were five strokes adrift on three under after rounds of 70, with US Open champion Lucas Glover (74) a shot further back.

Woods was chasing a 15th major title and a record-equalling fifth USPGA title but unlike in previous majors he failed to hole putts when they really mattered and was unable to pull clear.

Will Australia lose the Ashes match today ?

Australia was very close to winning the first Ashes test match with England team last week. But that is history.
Now the powerful Australian team is at the receiving end, with over 512 runs to chase and make in the last two days.
In the first innings of the second test match, the Australians were all out for 215 runs, and 512 runs + is indeed a really difficult score to make, and that too without losing all the wickets.
The England team can have the luxury of trying out every bowler in their arsenal without fearing of giving away more runs. They have time to their advantage and there is nearly 5% chance for them to lose this match, which requires a combination of really pathetic bowling plus fielding performance by England, along with a wonderful and aggressive batting by Australia, both of which look impossible.
