A drug which helps to clot Blood could save 100,000 lives
The blood clotting drug is easy to use and the price is just few dollars could save many lives. The blood clotting drug is estimated to save as many as 100,000 lives for a year if used. The road accidents and violence take many lives as lot of blood is clotted from the body. The report was given by Lancet to a local paper on Tuesday which was being published. The off patent treatment is known as tranexamic acid (TXA) and was tested by the doctors of London.
The treatments were done by the doctors from the school of hygiene and tropical medicine.Around274 hospitals from 40 different countries were taken for testing of the blood clotting drug. The TXA was used on some 20,000 severely injured patients in different hospitals and countries. An injection about one gram of TXA was given to the patients and another one gram was given through drip.TXA reduced the death risk by 10% and even if the death is due to any causes said the paper.
When there were cases of bleeding the medicine TXA reduced the risk of death by 15%.A million people undergo traffic deaths and 1.6 million die due to violence die. Many deaths due to traffic and violence could be prevented by using fast action by using TXA.0The lead author of the study is Ian Roberts who is a professor of epidemiology.TXA works on blood clotting due to any injury like road rashes, hemorrhage, shootings ,stabbings and land mine injuries. The price of TXA is $4.50 for a gram and will soon come into the medicinal market and save many lives.
