Global mobile sales crash in Q1 2009

The first quarter of 2009 is proving to be disastrous even for the strong mobile handset industry. The worldwide sales of mobile handsets have crashed by a massive 13% to 245 million units in the first quarter of 2009 which is by far the worst quarterly growth rate ever since 2001.
All the top five mobile handset makers have reported negative sales growth, primarily due to crashing sales across US , China and Europe.
The current economic crisis, might force people to use their existing mobile handsets for a longer period of time, thus reducing the demand for new handsets further. Also people with more than one handset might prefer to sell them off , even at a discount. That would put more handsets in the secondary market.
