US to probe crude oil trade

US Commodities futures trading commission, the watch dog for US commodity transactions, has finally decided to get into the act. It is investigating US crude oil trading to determine whether market prices are being manipulated by speculators. More US banks may fail

US banks have written off a record 37.1 billion US dollars in the first quarter of 2008 alone due to the surging bad debts and losses due to the bad real estate loans and credit crisis. Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation has said that the write offs in the coming quarters is only likely to increase as the fall out from the turmoil hits the real economy. we will have to wait and see.

The leading MNC in chemicals business has raised the prices of most of its products by up to twenty percent since it has been unable to absorb the input cost increases. Rajasthan rocks into IPL finals

Rajasthan Royals teams rocked into the IPL finals today after handing over a crushing defeat to the Delhi Dare devils in the first semi finals game. First to bat, Rajasthan Royals had a very good start and made 187 runs with low scoring in the fag end overs. Delhi Dare devils continued to lose wickets from the very beginning and were all out for less than 90 runs.

India may raise retail oil prices

India is most likely to raise the retail prices of Petrol and Diesel in the coming days, unconfirmed reports say. With the Indian Crude basket price at over 125$ per barrel and with no revision in the retail prices for last several months, the India government owned oil companies are now literally cash stripped and have gone over board and borrowed lot of short term working capital funds. To avoid any full blown crisis, the Petroleum ministry is pushing for a combination of excise duty cuts, custom duty cuts and small retail price increases. Things will  be clear by 5th of June 2008.

UK house prices drop

UK house prices dropped by 2.5% in May 2008 and brought the annual rate close to 4.4% which is the highest since 1992 economic slump. The drop is for the seventh consecutive month, which is again the longest  stretch in the last twenty five years. Economists fear that the drop could lead to a further crash in coming months which can put the entire UK economy into a tailspin.

New MS OS to have touch controls

Microsoft said that its next operating systdm will be made for touch screen applications, an alternative to the computer mouse, and its top executives reaffirmed their interest in joining forces with Yahoo towards this endeavor.
